Our Story
The cottage is owned and operated by Chelsi Cormier and her partner, Tyler. For Chelsi, this hillside view has been meaningful for years. As a teenager growing up in Nova Scotia, she would come to this spot when she needed calm and clarity. The view of the islands and the tides always felt grounding, and she carried the dream of one day having a home here.
In 2014, shortly after graduating from university, the cottage came up for sale. With encouragement from her parents, especially her father, who told her, “If you don’t buy this, you will regret it someday,” Chelsi went to see it. The decision felt overwhelming at her age, but the moment she returned to that familiar view, she felt a deep certainty that this place was meant to be hers.
Tyler serves with the Canadian Armed Forces at CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick. Despite the demands of military life, Chelsi and Tyler have built the cottage and the business together over the years. Tyler has played a major role in the renovations, ongoing maintenance, and bringing their shared vision to life, shaping the chalet into the warm, welcoming retreat it is today!
Bay of Fundy Retreat
What started as a simple pine chalet has been thoughtfully renovated into a coastal getaway that blends modern comfort with character. Guests can enjoy a gourmet kitchen, open-concept living spaces, a spacious deck, and a six-person hot tub with ocean views. A signature feature is the upper balcony we call the Widow’s Walk, an elevated space perfect for morning coffee, reading, tide watching, and stargazing under dark Fundy skies.
Why It’s Called 8 Island
The name 8 Islands comes from the coastal view across the Bay of Fundy and Minas Basin. From this area, the scenery points toward Five Islands, which is named for five small islands just offshore, plus Two Islands, also known locally as The Brothers, and Partridge Island near Parrsboro Harbour.Together, that adds up to eight islands. Landmarks like Cape Split and Cape Sharpe are also part of the dramatic coastal skyline, making the view feel even bigger and more unforgettable!
Rest & Reset
Some guests come for rest and reset, quiet mornings, hot tub soaks, and slow evenings by the fire.
Others come to explore, with direct ATV trail access from the yard, a private walking trail through the backyard, and nearby beaches like Wasson’s Bluff and Glooscap Park Beach just minutes away. Visitors also enjoy exploring local Mi’kmaq Glooscap heritage sites and the natural beauty that makes the Fundy region so memorable.
